In-service training

Introduction
In-service training is education for employees to help them develop their skills in a specific discipline or occupation. In-service training takes place after an individual begins work responsibilities. Most typically, in-service training is conducted during

The idea of in-service education for teachers was discussed in the Kothari Commission (1964-66) and in the Chattopadhyay Commission (1983-85) as important in order to enable teachers to renew their knowledge about teaching and the subjects they teach as well as to help to break the isolation of the teacher. All initiatives in curriculum, whether of the whole curriculum, special inputs in specific subject areas, or infusing new social concerns, have been implemented through the renewal or up-gradation in the knowledge and practice of teachers already in school. This includes both government initiatives as well as small and large interventions into government schools and alternative schools by non government agencies.  persons come to train the teachers in latest trend.
The Need for In-service Education
In-service education of teachers becomes all the more necessary in view of the advances in knowledge in the subject.  Teachers have to acquaint themselves with such new developments.  Besides there are experiments and innovations in the field of pedagogy which ought to be brought to the notice of the teachers, and if necessary required skills to adopt the innovative practices need to be developed These are some of the points because of that in-service training is needed
       I.            Continuous education: Education is the on going process. The pre service training which the teachers go through becomes old fashioned after few years. So this needs to be updated therefore it is needed today.
    II.            Insufficient Pre-service training: The pre- service training in India seems to be insufficient as this can’t focus on all the problems and skills. Every skill and problem needs special attention therefore in-service training is needed.
 III.            Changing area of human endevour: Today there  are new developments in methodology and curriculum. New subjects and teaching methods like ICT are introduced. In order to cope up with that in-service program is needed.
 IV.            Improvement of teaching competency: The skill of teachers’ should improve. For this teacher needs to be aware of the latest trend and technologies.
    V.            The need of change: The education should change according to the need of the society and demand of the time.

The components of in-service Training

            i.            Professionalism: The in-service programs are aimed to enhance the professional skills of the teachers’ namely teaching efficiency, better classroom management and overall management of the institution.
          ii.            Skill Development: The teachers’ need to develop their teaching skills. The teacher should incorporate the new methodologies in his way of teaching.
        iii.            Attitude towards profession: This changes the attitude towards profession and builds a positive attitude.
        iv.            Interest: It generates interests among the teachers towards the profession of teaching.

          v.            Group techniques : The in-service training program incorporates different group techniques of instructions like seminar,symosium, workshop, discussion brain storming and so on
