The
Refresher Course is subject-specific and provides opportunities for the serving
teachers of colleges and universities to meet their peers in an atmosphere of
mutual learning and interaction. The Course is intended to give information
about
the latest additions to the knowledge base in the subject through experts
in various activity-fields. The course also helps the teachers in tackling problems
associated with introduction of new courses of study and revision of syllabi,
and in finding out the latest trends of research in the concerned subject. The
Refresher course provides opportunities for serving teachers to exchange
experiences with their peers and mutually learns from each other. It is forum to abreast of the latest advances in
the subjects, technological spin off etc.
The need of Refresher course:
Refresher
course is necessary for the teachers to be upto date with their subject. It is
needed because of following reason:
I.
To
update the subject knowledge: Teachers need to update the subject
knowledge. For this they need to go through the refresher course.
II.
To
clarify the doubts related to their subjects: In refresher
course participants get the chance to clarify the doubts related to their
subjects from their peers as well as from subject experts.
III.
Awareness
of new Methodology: The refresher course can be a forum to
learn new methodologies in teaching learning the particular subject.
IV.
Awareness
about modern technologies: Innovation of ICT and other
technologies could be introduced to the teachers through refresher course.

Objectives of
Refresher course
1.
To provide opportunities for in-service
teachers to exchange experiences with their peers and facilitate learning

To provide forum for serving teachers to
keep abreast of the latest advances in specific subjects
3.
To create the culture of learning and self
improvement amongst lecturers
4.
To provide opportunities to further
widen the knowledge to pursue research studies;
5.
To introduce and enlighten them on new
methods and techniques of imparting knowledge so that the participants can in
turn develop their own innovative models of teaching.
Eligibility
criteria
Only
those lecturers are eligible to attend who have already attended the
orientation course conducted by the Academic staff college. There should be one
year gap between orientation course and refresher course. A refresher course
may be permitted even during the period of teacher fellowship provided it is in
his subject. Duty leave must be
sanctioned for the teachers.
Curriculum
It
is prepared by Academic Staff College with the help of the subject experts and
coordinator of the program.
Evaluation:
At the end the there is the provision for evaluation in which
participants are evaluated on basis of objective type test, overall response,
Seminar presentation, Project, and micro teaching. The successful candidates
are issued certificates based on grades A,B.C and F .The unsuccessful
participants have to attend the course once more but it won’t be sponsored by
the UGC.
